What info do I need to order
parts?
You will need 3 different numbers to identify your
engine, the Model number, Type number and Code number. The good
news is that Briggs has done a good job of stamping the number on
the engine, the numbers are small but are almost always there. For
most older single cylinder engines, look where the spark plug wire
comes out from under the cover. Some newer single cylinder engines
have a metal tag riveted near the recoil starter. For most older
twin cylinder engines, look on the side or top of the flywheel
shroud. Even if the engine is 20 years old, unless the main sheet
metal parts of the engine have been replaced, the numbers will
still be there. If you are interested in how old the engine is,
the first two digits of the Code number are the year of
production.
